In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
On September 2, 2026, following a bilateral meeting with Mr. Humayun Kabir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, His Excellency Dr. Rahimi Jahanabadi, the Honorable Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bangladesh, addressed members of the press and television networks gathered at the ministry. During this press interview, the Iranian Ambassador elaborated on our nation’s positions regarding bilateral relations with Bangladesh, the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, the latest developments concerning the conflict, and the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
His Excellency stated: "We do not view the Mecca Pact as being directed against us; rather, we regard it as a manifestation of the strategic weakness of the United States in our region, which for years claimed to guarantee regional security through arms sales and the establishment of military bases. It has now become evident that the nations of the region must provide for their own security." He further added: "Years ago, Iran proposed a joint regional defense pact involving all regional states, but regrettably, it was not received favorably by our neighbors. At present, we have submitted no request to join this initiative; however, should the signatory members of the "Mecca Joint Defence Agreement", invite Iran's participation, we will duly evaluate the matter.
